When applying to positions online, you need to be careful about what file formats are accepted. You want to make sure you are uploading your resume in the preferred format. If not, you risk hiring managers not being able to view your documents. 


Although Microsoft Word is still the most commonly used file format for job applications, not all versions of the software are compatible with the databases companies use to upload resumes online. Therefore, you will need to have your resume saved as a PDF and ASCII text version as well. This way, you will be ready to submit your resume in any format.
